Do I look like I'm packing?

Just like every other college student I feel that my personal appearance is of the upmost importance( *wink from across the biology lab*). However,  unlike many college student I start my days by making sure my ostomy bag is securely fastened to the right side of my stomach, and that I know where every bathroom is between Rhodes Tower and Main Classroom Building. Just because you have a pouch does not mean that you need to be self conscious all day. Also, can you please stop rubbing your stomach like you have an itch, I know what you are doing, and your not that slick. Seriously though, I have come up with some simple tips that may help in your daily concealment. This list will keep you looking good without making you feel like everyone is watching you adjust your shirt for the 15th time during anatomy class.

1. Layer your clothing: In the cooler months throw a t-shirt or a tank top (for the ladies), in the
warmer months you can use a thin tank (Hanes makes good ones)
under your top layer. If you tuck your under shirt into your pants it will help hold
your pouch close to your skin and prevent unwanted movement.
2. Wear a belt when you can: Wearing a belt  helps keep your pouch in your jeans or slacks.
Even when you move around and reach up to erase something on the board, the belt will help
with keeping that little guy tucked into your pants.
3. Options for your pouch: Make sure you know and use accessories that are offered for
your pouch. Some pouches release air (great for avoiding ballooning) others come with
elastic belts. These accessories are made for a reason. Use them.

I hope that my tips help out. Thanks for taking the time to view my blog.
